Cardi B – who is known as both a rapper and style icon – can now include fashion design in her repertoire of talents. She and the LA-based fast fashion retailer Fashion Nova teamed up to drop an 82-piece collection on November 15. Bodysuits, dresses, pantsuits, and accessories are just a few of the items in the collection, all of which are named in reference to a Cardi lyric or catchphrase such as the I Like It Bodysuit and
According to Cardi, her goal in creating the line was to make affordable clothes that look expensive, without sacrificing quality. “Every detail to me matters,” Cardi explained to Business of Fashion, “I want to make these women look so happy – so radiant, sexy, so corporate, and poppin’. I want them to look like they’re wearing Gucci and Prada, but they’re not, they’re wearing my line.”

Cardi’s own outerwear style achieved high praise when she attended a Billboard event in a Saks Potts mint-green trench coat trimmed with fur. Now months later, the outerwear pieces in her own line do not disappoint. She specifically focused on the fit of her trench coats saying, “sometimes when I wear a trench coat, I feel like it looks a little weird where you tie it […] so I made sure the tailoring was right on that.” Cardi even picked out the What’s Poppin Jacket in red as perfect for her sister, Hennessy.
Cardi told Elle Magazine that she “was really iffy about dresses but [she] think[s] [she] picked good dresses and everything.” One thing is for sure, with various lengths, materials, and patterns to choose from the dresses can appeal to a variety of people. Many of the dresses have a common feature – a belt – which cinches the waist for an hourglass figure.
A big fan of Fashion Nova jeans, it’s no wonder Cardi included several denim pieces in her collection. For Cardi, she told Business of Fashion she dislikes wearing jeans “when the butt is boxy” and “when there is that little space in the butt part, between your back.” Therefore, we can expect these denim pieces to be very form-fitting and work nicely for curvy body types, a staple for Fashion Nova.
