Goodbye Winter, Hello Warmth: What Your Closet Needs This Spring

The buzz of springtime, the last weeks of the semester, and the upcoming three months of summer are all palpable on campus right now, as there are only a few days separating us from Spring Fling, and a few degrees separating us from full-on spring clothing. It is finally April, and though some days still feel like winter, many are full of sunshine and short sleeves, lounging on College Green, and taking walks into Center City. Look around on a sunny spring day, and you will notice an energy never present in the winter. You will also notice people in shorts and tank tops, even if 60 degrees in the fall might entail light jackets and pants. People are evidently eager for the warmer weather, and eager for a wardrobe change.

My printed shorts stare at me every morning when I open my closet doors. It’s almost time. I am so impatient; I can hardly stand it. Walking around campus in my winter go-to black pants and jacket just feels wrong. Flowers are blossoming in all sorts of beautiful pinks, yellows, and oranges, the sky is a brilliant blue, the trees regrow their green leaves. Our wardrobes should reflect nature’s beautiful transformation from winter to spring.

While it may not be quite time to bust out the bathing suits, it will be soon, so make sure your closet is ready! Here are a few springtime necessities:

1. Shorts

One of my favorite warm weather trends is flowy, printed shorts. Anyone can find a flattering pair, and who really wants to squeeze into skin-tight shorts on a hot day?

2. Sunglasses

What better way to look good and protect your eyes from harmful rays than a cool pair of sunglasses? There are countless options available – it’s simply a matter of finding the right fit!

3. Sandals

The switch from boots and flats to sandals marks the ultimate transition from winter to spring. Free your feet from the constraints of the last season: Strap on a pair of sandals and let your toes graze the grass!

4. Scarves

In Philly, one day it’s warm and the next it’s freezing, so carrying a light cotton scarf in the case of the latter is a practical and fashionable way to deal with changes in the temperature. If it gets too warm, you can tie it around your bag for a pop of color!

5. Sunscreen

Floral prints and open-toed shoes are great, but the most important thing to wear this season is sunscreen. Being smart about using sunscreen is the best way to enjoy this beautiful weather!
