Spring is finally coming, and with it comes good weather and good vibes. In preparation for the best season of the year, I like to waterproof my entire makeup bag. Here are some of the swaps I make come Spring time…
1. Foundation –> Tinted Moisturizer
Tinted moisturizer is exactly what it sounds like. It is a hydrating moisturizer that offers light to medium coverage without the weight – making it a perfect product for the warmer seasons! Most tinted moisturizers already have SPF protection included so you can skip greasy face sunscreen – yay!
If you have oily skin and powder is a necessity, apply a translucent powder instead of your usual tinted powder. That way when you get oily throughout the day you can repeatedly re-apply powder without the fear of looking cakey! Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Powder ($20) is top rated and works for every skin tone.
2. Regular Liner –> Waterproof Liner
Whether you prefer to apply your eyeliner in a thin line or a dramatic wing, my guess is that you do not prefer all your hard work to end up in a smeared mess. Hence the importance of waterproof eyeliner. My favorite is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($20). If liquid eyeliner is not your style, however, blogger Harshleen of beautyTidbits, put together a list of liquid and pencil waterproof eyeliners that range not only in price but color!
3. Regular Mascara –> Waterproof Mascara
Mascara is a big deal. It has to turn your average human eyelashes into those of a goddess. In order to do its job effectively, it needs to be able to defend itself against the strong beams of the spring and summer sun. Allure Magazine created a list of its Top 7 Waterproof Mascaras. This list is great because it draws favorites from both drug store and high-end brands, so no matter what your price range is, you can find a great product!
4. Lipstick –> Lip Tint
First and foremost, lip balm is a must. Next, is lip stain. Despite being in a committed and loving relationship with lipstick in the winter, we tend to part ways in the spring and summer. While I do not completely give up lipstick during the warmer months, I more frequently reach for lip stains. Lip stains feel lightweight on your lips and give you long lasting color that does not rub off when you steal an icy sip from your lemonade. I am a a huge fan of Benefit’s Stain in Rose ($30) which doubles as a lip and cheek stain.
I know that a lot of people tend to shy away from waterproof products because when it comes time to remove said waterproof products, it can be a struggle. In some cases dealing with waterproof mascaras, there are eyelash casualties. However, by simply using a liquid based makeup remover, such as Neutrogena’s oil-free eye makeup remover ($8), you can remove all your eye makeup while keeping all of your eyelashes! Win, win. Liberally soak a cotton pad with your eye remover and place it on your eyelid for ten seconds, then wipe away gently. Repeat until all your makeup is removed.
