New York City seems to be a popular destination for Penn students. With NYC being just around 2 hours away, most have seen, or at least heard, about the big tourist hubs like Times Square. Eating a ‘New York bagel’ or ‘New York pizza’ is written on many a bucket list. However, being the vibrant city that it is, New York contains hidden gems scattered all throughout its crazy landscape. ChaLait (224 West 4th Street)
If you’re looking for a place that’s kind of modern, kind of minimalistic, then ChaLait is the place for you. A small, relatively new café located at the heart of Greenwich Village, ChaLait is known for its varied menu of green tea latte desserts, teas, and treats. It’s a perfect place to catch up with friends or just spend your time people watching.

Freemans Restaurant (End Of Freeman Alley, off of, Rivington St)
This café is a hipster haven. Tucked at the end of an alleyway and surrounded by a cloud of murals, the Freemans is a relatively small place with fairy lights strewn about that adds a dream like quality to the urban setting. Once you’re done with your meal, you can head over to the art museum next door, which displays monthly exhibits.
Suggested meal: Hot Artichoke Dip
Big Gay Ice Cream is one of the trendiest ice cream hubs in the city, where a long line is almost always guaranteed to greet customers. However, the ice cream truly makes up for the wait. It’s just the perfect dessert to cool down to after a meal.
