The Ultimate Oatmeal Party

The Ultimate Oatmeal Party

Let’s be real: who doesn’t love a good party? I love parties, and I will find or invent any excuse to host one. You finished your problem set? Let’s have a taco party. You don’t want to do your problem set? Let’s have a taco party anyway. My most recent idea? An oatmeal party for a lazy Sunday morning.

With minimal preparation—there’s even time in this recipe for sleeping—you, too, can host a deliciously rejuvenating brunch party. Simply make a big batch of oatmeal in a crockpot/slow-cooker the night before. Then, go to bed, wake up, and invite some friends over. Put mix-ins and toppings in the bowl, and treat yourself to some fluffy, creamy bites of heaven. Party.

If this won’t cure your morning blues, I don’t know what will.

Ultimate Oatmeal Party Recipe (serves 4-5):

1 ½ cups steel cut oats
6 cups of your preferred milk (I love the unique taste of almond milk)

Topping suggestions: more milk, chocolate chips, nuts, caramel, blueberries, any berries, bananas, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, coconut

Put oats and milk into your slow cooker. Turn it on low and set it for 9 hours, or around the amount of hours you plan on sleeping. Wake up and stir the mixture—it should be creamy and fluffy. (Stirring should incorporate any excess liquid.) If the oatmeal seems too dry for your taste, add more milk. Pile into bowls, and top with your favorite fix-ins.

My personal toppings of choice? Blueberries, slivered almonds, brown sugar, dulce de leche, and white and milk chocolate chips. YUM.

Tips: Make it fun! Put all your toppings in different bowls. People like toppings, and people like picking and choosing for themselves. The more options, the better.
