As important as workouts are, it’s crucial that you dress the part, too. Because when you look good, you feel good, which makes all the struggles of working out seem that much more appealing. We’re lucky to have great clothing stores with great workout apparel such as Lululemon and Athleta in Center City. Here are four great workout outfits that go with different workouts to inspire your wardrobe and body!
Sick of the treadmill? Try running by the Schuylkill river. It’s the perfect distance and just far enough from University City to give you fresh air. If you run distance, try running to the museum (3 miles) or through boathouse row (4-5 miles).
Here are two outfits that are perfect for sweat resistance and movability. Try out the Nike Fuel Band, which tracks your distance, calories burned, and more, and can easily be linked to your smart phone.
Think: loud music, sweat, lots of energy…. you’re in for some fun. Sounds like a Chancellor day party? Not exactly—just Flywheel Fitness. Flywheel has spinning studios across the United States and has recently opened up a studio in Center City located on 15th and Locust. It’s definitely an upbeat workout to try with a bunch of girlfriends (or even guy friends!). For a workout like this, shoot for Capri spandex pants and a tank. If it’s your first time, go for spandex shorts with a built in cushion (seen below) which will help reduce the ache from the bike’s seat. This is one sweaty workout, so headbands are a great way to keep your hair out of your face.
Not a ballerina? No problem. Barre uses the ballet bar as a tool to create a total body toning workout, so dance experience is not necessary. It is a great workout for all levels. The recently opened Barre Focus Fitness in University City is close to campus at 42nd and Chestnut. Here, long leggings is recommended and can be work with either tanks, tees or long sleeves. You won’t sweat too much so you just need comfortable, tight, and flexible clothes.
Need to detox? Head to Hot Yoga. With extremely hot temperatures and tightening poses, Hot Yoga is the place to break a sweat. Right next to the Barre studio on 42nd and Chestnut is Bikram Yoga. In a workout like this, clothing is minimal. Many women wear spandex shorts and sports bras or tanks.
Here are a few extra pieces that you can wear and use when going to the gym. Or even (no shame), thinking of making an attempt to go to the gym. Hey, it’s the thought that counts right?
