iPhone Apps: the Guide for Fashionistas

It’s one thing to scour over fashion blogs, but it’s another to take advantage of trendy iPhone apps. The following recommendations have not only gotten the fashion industry riled up, but also dispense useful tips to help us look our best. Need a study break? Nothing says time well spent like educating yourself on the latest trends or networking with fellow fashion lovers, all from your phone!

With Snapette, you can browse fashion trends directly from your phone. This new company partnered with over 180 top brands and retailers from Tokyo to New York for inside scoops on the latest products and sales. Recently named a “Top 10 Must-Have Fashion App” by the International Business Times, Snapette provides real-time alerts on your phone from stores, as well as candid reviews from various shoppers. Even celebrities have joined the bandwagon, like Emma Roberts, the newest fashion advisor of Snapette. As told to Elle, Emma said, “When you click on a photo, you can find exactly where to get it in a store that’s close to you. I love that it’s like shippable Instagram.” Plus, it’s free!

The best way to stay up-to-date with the newest fad is to follow the fashion shows. Now with the new Style.com app, it’s possible. Whether it be Paris or New York, spring, fall, or resort, the shows forecast the latest trends for upcoming seasons.  Couture runway coverage is delivered straight to your phone so you can peruse the latest looks and zoom-in to check out the details. Get a close-up of Balmain’s luxurious sequined pants or Celine’s minimalist sweaters by swiping through various looks. Or, draw inspiration from Style.com’s runway archive dating back ten years or the latest global party coverage. Most notable is the improved video tab, featuring designer and celebrity profiles. What better way to pass time than study the best looks from your favorite collections? (free).

Sometimes, you need to visualize your outfits. Stylebook allows you to import your actual closet to plan what to wear and track your style inspirations.  since its release, the app has received raving reviews; Vogue Australia, in particular, said Stylebook is “a must for Cher Horowitz types.” With exams, tests, and rush schedules to keep track of, this app helps us manage and organize our wardrobes with features like background removal tools to cut out your clothes for easy collaging, re-editing images after importing them, layering and resizing clothing, and adding notes and tags to any items. Plus, the app comes with a shopping catalog of over 7,000 retailers powered by ShopStyle. This is a must for all fashionistas! ($3.99)

While we all wish we could afford Philip Lim and Balenciaga, the reality is we are college students. Urban Outfitters provides fashionable jeans, dresses, and sweaters that fall within a collegiate’s budget. You can browse the latest fashions with detailed product descriptions of sizes and color availability. Although Penn students have instant access to the UO store on 36th and Walnut, next to Cosi’s, the app also finds nearby stores using GPS capabilities or manual search with city and state. By now, you also know how cute UO’s home products are, especially their side table accessories, wall decor, and beddings. Additionally, you’ll get informative push notifications regarding special events, in-store, and online promotions – an added bonus for students.

With fashion comes beauty, and Sephora To Go will provide the latest information on prestige beauty products. From the simplified shopping process – you can search, shop, and purchase using the advanced custom product finder – to the product archive, filterable by price, color, best-selling, and even skin type, you’re guaranteed to find whatever product is best suited for you. The database is plentiful, with global companies like Bourjois or more common companies like NARS. You’ll be able to scan products in store for instant testimonials from clients, watch expert how-to’s from the video library, and receive notifications on the latest deals exclusive only to app users. And don’t worry, with every purchase through the app, you’ll still receive Beauty Insider Points for those sweet gifts.
