How to Layer Your Way Into Fall Fashion

On chilly fall days like today, we can’t sport our good old denim shorts, tank tops and basic V-necks. But it’s days like today, when the leaves keep falling and the temperature keeps dropping, that we remember why we love fall – for fall fashion. We can finally unpack our blazers, boots, tights, and scarves. But if you’re still figuring out a way to wear your cute sundress or classic a-line skirt, have no fear: you have a couple of weeks left to wear them if you layer, layer, layer! Here are the top ways to wear summer favorites while staying warm for fall.

The classic sundress, a must-have summer staple, doesn’t have to be buried in the back of your closet just yet. Simply add a layer on top, like a blazer or cardigan, or try wearing the dress over a thin knit turtleneck. Juxtaposing different textures through layering gives an outfit a new, fresh look.

If you want to dig further into your summer inventory, pull out your summer staple skirt. Simply swap the flats you normally would pair it with for boots and tights, or even knee-highs if you will.  If boots, tights, or knee-highs aren’t your cup of tea, just add a cozy sweater to transition that summer skirt right into fall.

Accessorizing is a great way of adding a touch of warmth and a pop of autumnal color to an otherwise summery look. Pair a tee with a scarf in one of fall’s signature hues: orange, red, rust, or even mustard yellow. Or, go for shoes and belts in these tones to channel fall.

So, think twice before taking all your summer clothes home for fall break; you might want to keep a few pieces around till Thanksgiving. Happy layering!
