Labor Day Weekend is finally arriving, which means among the craziness of NSO, we’re ready for Budweiser and Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival. The music festival on Benjamin Franklin Parkway is sure to be Philadelphia’s party of the year, kicking off a great semester of concerts. With so many people heading out to hear the music, The WALK is here to help you be the most chic attendee there.
When to Go
Many students are choosing to go both days, but the festival is also offering single-day passes. Each day has its own pros and cons, but Saturday may be the day not to miss. Rumors have been swirling that Beyonce will make a surprise appearance during Jay-Z’s set, which is already sure to be a great performance. On top of that, Skrillex and Calvin Harris will also be performing, as well as Passion Pit, who performed earlier this year at Franklin Field for Spring Fling.
While Saturday should be great, Sunday is also likely to pack a big punch. The lineup includes major acts like Drake and Pearl Jam, and it’s also bringing out the legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC. Odd Future and Philly native Santigold are also worth checking out.
What to Wear
Since weather this weekend is expected to be warm and sunny, we’ve gathered a few potential looks for girls and guys to sport during the festival.
For girls, shorts and a tank top are summer music festival staples, along with accessories to set your look apart from the masses. It’s important to make sure your clothes and shoes are comfortable for the heat and the outdoors.
For the guys heading out this weekend, take a cue from the girls, and keep it simple in shorts. Colors and graphics are also perfect for end-of-summer concerts — just be sure to leave the frat tank tops at home. And when it comes to shoes, make sure you’ve got a pair of casual sneakers (rather than athletic shoes).
Here are a few looks and items we’ve found to inspire your MIA ensemble:
What to Bring
Ensure that you won’t forget the weekend – pack a camera along with your phone. Also bring along sunglasses and remember to put on sunscreen and lip balm before you head away from campus. Bring along bandaids (it’s outdoors — anything can happen) as well as extra hair ties. Or, better yet, try one of these cool summer hair styles. You may also want to bring along water and your trusty fannypack. And, of course, don’t forget your tickets!
