School to Summer Transition Trends
History repeats itself, and clothing trends tend to as well. However, there’s a new “high low” cut style that I haven’t seen until this year. Now, you can’t walk through campus without spotting this avant-garde cut.
A “high low” cut is a shirt, skirt or dress which is shorter in the front than in the back. High low styles are versatile pieces that can be pulled together for a formal event, or dressed down to create a laid-back bohemian vibe.
The first image on the left shows how to vamp up the high low dress into a nighttime look. Adding a chunky “bib” necklace and stacking thicker bracelets will complement the delicate dress. A thick heel (try Jeffrey Campbell’s “Lita” boot in taupe suede) will complement the bulky jewelry. The gold and cream accessories warm up this stunning cool-toned mauve dress, creating a formal look for any party after dark.
The second image on the right shows how to dress down the high low dress into a relaxed ensemble. The thick belt acts as a focal point, giving you a defined waistline. Wedges (try Steve Madden’s “Watchout” wedge in black suede) are less dressy than other heels, yet still give you height. The lack of jewelry and use of muted colors keeps the outfit modest for every day wear.
This trend is one to try heading right into summer. The 2K12 school year is finally history.
