No need to pay online shipping costs on that coveted bohemian-inspired blouse or hippie-chic poncho because popular chain boutique Free People recently opened a new store in Center City. Located at 16th and Walnut next to its parent store Urban Outfitters, the new boutique offers pricey but beautiful apparel, shoes and accessories. This isn’t the first time Free People has had a store in Philadelphia. The company opened its original store in the city in the 70s but later changed its name to Urban Outfitters. Urban reintroduced Free People as a sister brand about 30 years later and also adopted national retail chain Anthropologie.
The new location’s atmosphere is sunny and inviting, as are the employees who drape themselves head to toe in the brand. While Penn students heading to class may not want to look like they are heading to Woodstock, one or two statement pieces from the store are assured to help find anyone’s inner flower child. However, since the store is still new, its sale selection is fairly meager. Shoppers may have to wait a few months to score some deals on the vintage looks we all crave.
