Fall 2011 Trends

With the semester approaching in just a few weeks (our closets clearly being empty), and so many runway shows  to go through to figure out what the Fall 2011 trends are, it’s not hard to be…slightly confused. The Walk decided to help you and bring you a selection of this season’s must-haves, coming from the Fall11 most popular catwalk looks.

Bold Colors

Bold colors in strict geometric shapes (and surprising combinations), are prominent in the new collections. Whether it is a black and white Antonio Berardi dress or an electric blue 3.1. Phillip Lim blouse, wearing intense color/shape combinations are an incredible way to draw attention.

The 60’s Mod

Described by Jobling and Crowley as the “fashion-obsessed and hedonistic cult of the hyper-cool,” it seems pretty natural that the style would be revived by now (and that we love it)! Cocoon-like, feminine silhouettes, T-strap pumps, and the love for white and orange seems very Mad Men-esque.

Polka Dots

Cheeky, girly, and…cute? Well, prepare to be surprised because this season polka dots want to be taken seriously (at least judging from Marc Jacobs who covered practically all of his collection in them). Take a look at pieces by Paul Smith, David Koma and other designers, and it seems that polka dots are taking the place of stripes on classic skirts, trousers and even jackets.

Just because it’s 90 degrees out right now in Philadelphia does not mean that your bones will not freeze in the Wind Tunnel this October or that you will not stop feeling your fingers in January. So, although it’s hard to think about anything warm right now, equipping yourself with a nice, comfy parka is actually a good idea, given that parkas were all over the runway shows this season, and most designers decided to give them a fashionable, feminine twist instead of sticking to the typical Barbour style. And just a little designer namedropping to justify this as a trend: Alexander Wang, Antonio Marras, Aquascutum, D&G, Jean Paul Gaultier, Max Azria… you get our point.

Liquid Look

Some of the season’s sexiest looks came in liquid-looking, metallic and sequin details. Dresses and accessories dipped in shine will make your evening appearances quite a bit more noticeable. Plus, who doesn’t love to shine and sparkle at a party?
