Late-Night Munchies

If your sweet tooth comes out late at night, here are some delicious, yet healthy snacks.

1. Chocolate Covered Bananas

Have you ever craved ice cream in the middle of the night? And you just can’t help digging into that Ben and Jerry’s? However, that pint of ice cream may be a bit too much for a midnight snack. So here is a great alternative – frozen bananas covered in dark chocolate! All you have to do is peel the banana, slice it up into small pieces and leave them in the freezer. So when that midnight crave starts creeping in, munch down those bananas with melted chocolate instead of Ben and Jerry’s. Frozen bananas taste a lot like ice cream and a tint of chocolate makes it even better. If you are too busy for this, you can always buy chocolate covered bananas (frozen) at Trader Joe’s!

2. Greek Yogurt with Granola/Dried Cranberries

Everyone knows that yogurt is good for you. Many people on a diet try to stick with low-fat yogurt. Low-fat yogurt is great, but greek yogurt is even better! It has much more protein and it is easier to add flavor. Get some plain, low-fat greek yogurt and throw in some granola, dried cranberries, raisons or even chocolate covered pomegranate seeds! Pomegranate seeds sound random, but it works with greek yogurt. So if you want to keep the calories low and get a great kick of protein, have the greek yogurt with pomegranate seeds. The seeds still give you that crunch a granola has without the calories.

Many people stuff their bags with Luna bars, Cliff bars or any kind of bars to keep their energy up. Many even eat them as a midnight snack to avoid eating too much. However, some of these bars are actually not made out of the healthiest type of protein. (You want to check if the bar is made out of whey or soy protein.) Or maybe that chocolate covered Luna bar feels too sweet to be a healthy midnight snack. is a website that allows you to create your own bar/cookie. You can choose every single ingredient that goes into the bar and control how much protein you want or how many calories you want in each bar. You can even name your bars! It is a great site that can provide you with a healthy, personalized option.
